There are two new Andalites in town, and Ax isn't sure if he should have ableist or homophobic about it.

You can watch it in one piece on Blip:

or you can watch it in two pieces on Youtube below the cut!

I knew this would be written as soon as I read book 40 for the first time.

TITLE: Weightless
SUMMARY: Mertil helps Gafinilan during his last days.
RATING: PG
WARNINGS: MertilxGafinilan slash and character death.
OTHER NOTES: I'd like to dedicate this fic to anyone who has ever taken care of somebody with a terminal illness.

There is a light from a higher window shining down on you tonight... )

The team is surprised when a video of an Andalite shows up on TV. They confirm it isn't Ax, because the one on the tape is missing half his tail. They soon learn there are two other survivors of the dome ship crash, Mertil and Gafinlin, living in their town. The Yeerks have Mertil, but he's useless since he can't morph. The team must help Gafinlin rescue Mertil, before Gafinlin's plan to trade Ax can be played out.

I'm sure most of you are already familiar with the big topic this book generated LOL. I really didn't mind this book...too many of the later ones aren't all that readable even.

I think though that it's too bad those two never surfaced again later. Or at least Mertil, if Gafinlan died.

Also interesting is the introspection into Andalite views of the disabled, and human views as well.

Ax and the Animorphs have always believed he was the only non-infested Andalite on Earth. That he alone survived the terrible battle between his people and the yeerks.
Until now.
There WERE other survivors. Other Andalites. And they're here on Earth. Trying to keep a low profile. Trying like Ax and the Animorphs to stay alive until help finally comes.
If help finally comes...

This is one of my favorite of the later books. I see someone made a post about it a little bit back, and now I'll always wonder as I read it lol.

What do you think of Gafinilan's actions trying to save Mertl? I find it highly ambiguous like so many other things in the series. It's nice that he was trying to save his friend but bad he'd risk another Andalite to do it. I'm reminded of his "no one understands" lament.

Why do you think Andalites look down on vecols so much? I can really see the comparison to humans here. Unfortunately some humans have similar patterns of thought. I hope Ax learned a few things from the experience.

I know Gafinilan didn't have long but should he or Mertl have showed up again later on, in another book? Maybe more Mertl than him...

Bonus points for the Unsolved Mysteries part. I can see the whole thing complete with Robert Stack voice and music in my head as I read that part because my mom used to watch it all the time. She still watches it all the time, although it's the new one now. LOL I can even still quote you the old information number spiel they gave at the end I think. And the beginning spiel. Scary lol

Hmm, prompt..."A Friend in Need" works I think.

Next week we read Megamorphs #4, the last Megamorphs book, before we get to The Familiar. (another one I like)

Am I the only one that feels that the ghostwriter for this book failed miserably to capture Marco's personality and essence? Throughout the whole book it just felt wrong... I kept waiting for something, anything that would scream Marco at me but.... alas, I  got nothing.

(sidenote: This is the book where the Animorphs help rescue the vecol Andalite)
