Sorry, sick and not feeling too well.

The Garatrons were physiologically similar to Andalites with the centaur shape, blue fur and thought speech. But, they haven't got stalk eyes, and their heads look like bicycle helmets. They also lack tail blades. And they do everything incredibly fast. I almost wish we'd seen more of them than just the one book. I do like how the earth snake morph was able to take out the inspector's Garatron host though. I think that was the < You're fast, Yeerk. I'm faster. > exchange.

I just have to say that I absolutely hated the "convergent evolution" explanation for their similarity to the Andalites. It was a total cop-out that SOMEONE made (I'll go ahead and blame the ghostwriter because I feel like that's a fandom imperative) when they could have actually created a new, cool alien, OR implied some kind of weird Klingon-Cold-War hidden history between Andalites and the Garatrons.

And as potentially cool as the Garatrons were, they did only last one book, and I kind of wished we would have gotten some deeper development of something already established. Another Leeran book or something. Serial Animorphs was always better than episodic Animorphs.

I agree with Jen: the Garatrons, much like the Arn, were a missed opportunity to give the series some more depth. I'm also fascinated by the resemblance, and yeah, I wanted some explanation other than the cursory one we were given. Then again, we don't even get enough on Taxxons or Andalites, who everyone in the fandom and his brother would like to know more about. Sigh.
