Hi! I've been a lurker in this community for a looong time now and I thought I should finally join it. My name is Johanna and I live in a small country in Europe, called Austria (hope some of you know it). I'm a huge fan of the Animorphs since I was 11 or 12. My love for them never really died. I used to pick up a book and read my favourite parts/ chapters time and again but this summer is my big re-reading-them-all-summer (or at least reading up to # 30 because the stopped translating them into german after this one). And this brings back so many memories of the good old days, like when I used to look to the sky and watch for Tobias (even though we do not have red-tails around here) or tried to aquire my cat or refused to kill a fly because it could have been one of them. (Yeah, I really was that geeky). You see, I was really into them. They were and still are amazing.
And just as most of the members in this community I think they are so great not only because of this whole we-are-morphing-into-animals-to-save-the-world adventure aspect but mostly because there were so many deep and moral issues in the books. I guess this is the reason why I still love them, even at the age of 21.
Anyway, I'm just glad I found such an active community and I'm looking forward to participate here more often. And sorry for my bad english, I'll try my best to make myself clear but since it's not my mothertongue I might make some mistakes.

~Johanna

That's the same reason I love them too. It was just about the action, and I also love that at then end, everything didn't just go back to normal. They still had problems to work through. But wow, that sucks that the publisher stopped translating them! I guess they didn't sell as well abroad, even though they did very well in the US. I think the only other series that Scholastic published that outsold Animorphs was Harry Potter. Oh and your English is fine. :) I understood you perfectly.

Hello! I've been to Austria! Vienna is very beautiful. Enjoy your re-read, I did a huge re-read this summer too. I tried to acquire my friend's dog when I was 11 or so, aha.

Hello! I joined this comm recently too.

It does suck that they stopped translating them (tho' the series did go downhill in the 30s and 40s.) Did they translate the Chronicles and Megamorphs?

I always get a start when I see a red-tailed hawk, too. My father really loved red-tailed hawks and so I was excited they played such a big role in the series.

Your English sounds great to me. Much better than my German (which I've just started trying to learn.)

hey, welcome :)

Yeah, I've heard of Austria. Mostly from the end of The Sound of Music, and a few composers. I forget who though lol

It's annoying that they start translating and then don't keep going.

I have a degree in European history. I know exactly where Austria is. :P

I hope you have a good time here. :) We like over-analyzing things over and over again. Please join in!

I have never looked a bunch of raptors flying around the same way. Especially if it's about 5-6 of them. They get the 'hey wait a minute' eyeball from me.

Hah, I've know of Austria! ...Although this may just be because I'm Australian and Austria is what the rest of the world seems to get us confused with.

And not being able to read back 30 really sucks! But perhaps you could try reading the post-30 ones in English?

Anyways, welcome to the comm! It is a fun place :P

Hah, perhaps you could read the ones you haven't when they get re-released! ...I wouldn't have a clue whether they'll be released in other languages as well, though.

:) Welcome! I know Austria! I visited once.

At least you got #30, which is in my unbiased opinion the best book in the series.

Austria's a great country, would love to go back there one day.

And this brings back so many memories of the good old days, like when I used to look to the sky and watch for Tobias (even though we do not have red-tails around here) or tried to aquire my cat or refused to kill a fly because it could have been one of them. (Yeah, I really was that geeky)

I might or might not still do this.

I also might or might not avoid the cats when changing my clothes... just in case.
