I'm not really looking forward to the movie, but we'll see...
A lot of people say that, not sure why... It's just your run of the mill action flick (unless people don't like action flicks). The key to determining if you'll like a movie, in my opinion, is to walk in with 0 expectations and then see how you feel afterword :D
Well, I guess you also have also consider the genre. I just don't care for over the top movies and I don't care for horror movies. That means I just won't go see them because even though I have no expectations going in, I know I always feel either WTF? or scared/bad/icky after watching them. I guess that's what I meant ^^
yeah right, everyone in hollywood's got their panties in a twist b/c this is supposed to be the first *original big budget action epic* in a while and I'm more like "dude sounds like the plot of every chronicles book ever made"
but some sci fi author was suing him for stealing his idea, and the weird part is that in that story, the *avatar* that the main character transposes into is pretty much EXACTLY an Andalite
The movie should be renamed to "Dances with Ten ft tall Smurfs". Its the CG versions of Dances with Wolves, and The Last Samurai. The Hork Bajir Chronicles was better cause it only involved aliens not a human Marine training a group of aliens how to kill other Marines.
Mmmm... Yeah, the comment about the plot wasn't meant to be derisive of the new movie, more of an observation. There are only like 10 plots in the world, when you break it down far enough, so that doesn't bother me :D I don't think the director stole the plot off of the Hork Bajir Chronicles or anything. I'm pretty sure YA science fiction from the 90's is pretty far under the radar ;D
The tech, FX, aliens and world all look beautifully rendered, I can't wait to watch it. Even if the plot is exactly how I know it will be, I'm just going for the alien eye candy XD
The only complaint I had was that I hoped there was an explanation for how BLUE the aliens are, as it's clearly not for camouflage as the world is very green :) But that's more of a nitpick than anything else. ^^
No, you're not. I hadn't heard of it at all until I saw a trailer for it before District 9, at this lovely theater with huge screens and digital projection. So, yes, amazing. If nothing else, I'm looking forward to it because it looks absolutely gorgeous. I'm a touch disappointed after seeing this trailer because, yeah, the plot looks like things I've seen before. Not so much the various chronicles books but other movies.
My only beef with it, from what little I've seen, is it portrays future humanity as not having learned from our mistakes AT ALL.
As soon as that gray rock came up and they mentioned what it was worth, I was immediately reminded of Disney's Pocahontas. All the sexual tension that will most definitely be in there just strengthens the comparison.
I saw this trailer a while ago, and it wasn't until I saw it that I realized that I wouldn't mind watching this film. If nothing else, it looks really effing pretty and will look amazing in a theater.
I actually am looking forward to it too. But then again, I have the habit of loving movies everyone else hates. And hating films everyone else likes.
They do look like Andalites! I thought that too, but my first thought was actually that it was closer in similarity to Fox's earlier film "Fern Gully" than "Animorphs". There were several shots in particular that really stood out to me as being similar.

Date: 2009-12-09 12:06 am (UTC)So I'm a bit late, but I was JUST telling my friend the other night how the blue people reminded me of upright Andalites.
I don't think she got the reference.
