Songs that remind you of the Animorphs

I was re-organizing my iTunes today and ended up discovering (or rediscovering) a few songs in the process, some of which really reminded me of the relationships in this series. At first I was thinking of making a fanmix, but idk, I guess my laziness took over so I'm here instead posting about songs!

I couldn't find these anywhere online, so I had to transcribe them myself. I got a real shock listening to this song because it seriously reminded me of the Rachel/Tobias dynamic - bird metaphors and all! If you guys give the song a listen (or heck, even skim over these lyrics), I think y'all may see/hear what I do - every line seems to fit in perfectly, and that's pretty rare IMO. "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls also reminds me of T/R (I think they dance to it in one book or something), but the song is famous enough that I doubt I have to upload it for you guys :p

OTOH, Alanis Morisette's Simple Together reminded me of Jake/Cassie. Click for lyrics. I guess it'd be a Cassie-to-Jake song, but the whole thing made of think of how right for each other they seemed in the beginning (and how everybody assumed they would just fall in love and have a no-drama relationship), and how they fell apart in the end. It's a really sad and pretty song, too.

And "Discovery Channel" by The Bloodhound Gang ("baby you and me we ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel" - yes, *that* song) has always made me think of Marco and his "womanizing", haha :p I'm probably not giving much credit to the depth and wit of his character, but I think this works in a hilarious, ironic kinda way. I don't have the song (otherwise I'd upload it for you) but you can find it easily on Youtube.

There are more songs, but I think I'll let somebody else take up the discussion now.

So what do you guys think? Do the songs above make sense? Are there any songs that have always reminded you of a character/pairing/group/whatever in this series?

Ooooooh, that's a good point about Tobias! I always thought Marco was the most intelligent, actually - or, at the very least, the most street-smart (and also quickest) but I think Tobias has awesome powers of observation and deduction. Uh, I guess that makes Marco an excellent lawyer and Tobias an excellent scientist or detective or something... :p

That was probably one of my favorite Marco quotes because it is just so damn kickass and made me wonder for about the millionth time why this book is marketed to pre-teens... because I'm sure some adults even forget some of that wisdom. And he would've made an excellent Slytherin, I agree wholeheartedly!

that's a good point about marco but he's ultimately more slytherin because street smarts require a bit more cunning than regular book smarts and observation and whatnot. gosh i love these characters so much. i also wonder why it was marketed to such a young audience. i wonder how it would've fared if each book had been fleshed out a bit more and written towards perhaps a young adult audience, with the kids being a bit older.

I think the books did end up attracting a pretty good demographic of readers. The writing was so deceptively simple, and the themes were so surprisingly dark - my ten-year-old self was in it for the "people-turning-into-cool-animals" aspect and my nineteen-year-old self loves the overarching themes of war and violence and moral ambiguity and whatnot.

exactly! rereading it, i was like whoa. this stuff is pretty heavy. but i loved every second of it. it's too bad there isn't a series like that now for kids, that doesn't underestimate their intelligence and ability to digest a series with the content that that series had.

I think there may be a few good ones out there, but I haven't picked up a (newer) kids' series in a while. My taste in literature usually runs to the classics (I tend to read them over and over again), so I have a hard time picking up a new book and enjoying it. I like the old ones, I guess.
