I was re-organizing my iTunes today and ended up discovering (or rediscovering) a few songs in the process, some of which really reminded me of the relationships in this series. At first I was thinking of making a fanmix, but idk, I guess my laziness took over so I'm here instead posting about songs!

Amy Cook - Feathers To A Crown
feather falls
bird is caught
inside of these four walls
hey my love
why don't we
tear the house down

sleep with the sky
the moontower reflected in your eyes
take those bad dreams
and burn them to the ground

these are
hard times for dreamers
we are just
pennies in a wishing well
but we ain't gonna bite
we ain't gonna sell

baby don't you worry
cause the cannonballs will fly
but we've got a cavalry of birds
to pluck them from the sky

she's the sight to see
the patron saint of mediocrity
and there are many
who follow her ways

but i will not let them get you down
there are still those who would choose
feathers to a crown
and may her fire guide you
all of your days

I couldn't find these anywhere online, so I had to transcribe them myself. I got a real shock listening to this song because it seriously reminded me of the Rachel/Tobias dynamic - bird metaphors and all! If you guys give the song a listen (or heck, even skim over these lyrics), I think y'all may see/hear what I do - every line seems to fit in perfectly, and that's pretty rare IMO. "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls also reminds me of T/R (I think they dance to it in one book or something), but the song is famous enough that I doubt I have to upload it for you guys :p

OTOH, Alanis Morisette's Simple Together reminded me of Jake/Cassie. Click for lyrics. I guess it'd be a Cassie-to-Jake song, but the whole thing made of think of how right for each other they seemed in the beginning (and how everybody assumed they would just fall in love and have a no-drama relationship), and how they fell apart in the end. It's a really sad and pretty song, too.

And "Discovery Channel" by The Bloodhound Gang ("baby you and me we ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel" - yes, *that* song) has always made me think of Marco and his "womanizing", haha :p I'm probably not giving much credit to the depth and wit of his character, but I think this works in a hilarious, ironic kinda way. I don't have the song (otherwise I'd upload it for you) but you can find it easily on Youtube.

There are more songs, but I think I'll let somebody else take up the discussion now.

So what do you guys think? Do the songs above make sense? Are there any songs that have always reminded you of a character/pairing/group/whatever in this series?

Wow! As a hardcore Savage Garden and Animorph fan, I'm totally fanning out right now XD! And while "Crash and Burn" remains to be my favorite song in existence, and I do like the other songs that have been mentioned, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned "The Animal Song".

"Animals and children tell the truth they never lie/which one is more human there's a thought now you decide." The song has a feel to it about how the world is so stressful, but then Darren sings "I want to live, like animals/Careless and free, like animals/I want to live, I want to run through the jungle/The wind in my hair and the sand at my feet." It reminds me of how they will morph into birds, dolphins, or dogs and feel totally free and happy.

Oh! And if any of you have continued to be a Darren Hayes fan (lead singer of Savage Garden) he has this awesome song called "Darkness" that sort of reminds me of Jake after the main war with the Yeerks (possibly a little before too).

One song that really makes me think of the Animorphs is O.A.R.'s "Heard The World". The first part of it is a bit slow, but it starts to really kick with the tension during the chorus and I think it really fits their anxiety.

"If the world is crumbling down, I don't wanna be alone.
NO, locked up in this place.

I heard the world up, late night.
Holding my breath tight, trying to keep my head on right.
There's a chill in the air, nobody could care.
How you're caught up in the fight of your life.
"

Hahaha, "The Animal Song." That one was so obvious I let someone else mention it. :P

I've never really listened to Hayes' music much (uh, because the band broke up, right? I don't pay attention, whee~) mostly because... I love the first two albums (yay, nostalgia) and I don't wanna find out if their other stuff was crap and never knew anyone else who liked their stuff. XD But I'll go look up that "Darkness" song 'cause now I'm interested.

Well, if you listen to the first CD by Darren Hayes called Spin, it's not that great, but the second and third CD's are pretty good. Some of the songs like "Neverland" and "Bombs Up In My Face" are a bit weird, but he has some awesome stuff too like "Hero" (another Ani-Song recommendation), "Lucky Town", "Fallen Angel" (I think this one is a B-Side), and if you want something less emo try "Popular".
