Animophs Sketch: Opinions

Okay, here it is. Posting for opinions first because I still have the original pencil sketch and can change some things before I color it. Also, the scanner cut off some blank space at the top and bottom. If people have some sort of quote from the books or words of any sort they think should go in it there is room for them.

Characters from left to right are Cassie, Jake, Marco, Rachel, Tobias, and Ax. The appearances differ a little from the book covers because I did these from memory of how I used to picture them. I used morphing suits for outfits because I realized I had no clue what to have them wearing and thats all anyone I talked to suggested.

Cassie: Supposed to be kind of concerned. She's the one who cares and the one who sees most what this war can do.

Jake: Is just kind of there. Serious expression, maybe a little questioning like, "What do I do now." He's got the weight of the world on his shoulders, and the rest depend on him to lead the way.

Marco: Crossed arms, smug smile. Pretty much everyone suggested this.

Rachel: Rachel. Kinda of a smirk really. The corner on the other side didn't want to come up. I wanted her pose and expression to say, "bring it on." Pose is basically one hip jutting out, hand on it. The other hand in clenched in a fist.

Tobias: The pose is supposed to be kind of stiff and awkward. Expression is kind of serious and blank. I know he technically doesn't have a morphing suit, but I wanted him as a human.

Ax: Ax is Ax. I think the lower half sucks, but I still need to work on drawing animals.

After I ended up making all those suggestions I ended up drawing them all out myself, so my picture looks a lot like yours but we have different styles. I think you got the expressions down pact. Ax's body just kind of droops down and doesn't finish though. But those things take practice

Yeah. Ax gets cut off by the end of the page is what it is. I didn't have room to finish him because I drew them with the page vertical.

yeah but you didn't develop his back half of the body, even if it is not on the page.

Ok. I think I get what you're saying now. I also think I can fix it for the colored version. Like I said, I've still got the original sketch in pencil.

My biggest issue with this is that their hair is all the exact same style.

Might kind of look that way, but it wasn't intentional. Along with that, it's being wind-blown so any style there is isn't going to be that noticeable. And Cassie's definitely not the same style. There's a wave to it that's just not very noticeable because I kept her hair so short.

One thing i noticed right away was that they are all leaning to the right. It's kind of hard to change that now, but just keep it in mind for next time :)

Ummm.... Actually it might have been scanned slightly angled on accident. I don't know. Otherwise it could just be something to think about for next time like you said.

I really like the way you did Jake's expression and Rachel's eyebrows/eyes - they really convey her personality. Tobias's 'stiffness' also came out well.

Now I'm not an artist nor have I had art training or anything...but just to me, it kind of looks like their necks are too long and their heads are slightly too small. But really, maybe I just don't know proportions or anatomy, hah. And maybe you could have given them more defined knees.

All in all though, I think you did a great job! :)

Yeah, the necks on a few of them are a little long. Heads are fairly okay actually, though Jakes definitely looks small because I made his neck a bit too thick.

The knees are an issue, yes. I need to work some on legs and arms having more shape and being less boxy. You basically caught the largest current flaw in my drawing style. :)
