Animorphs #41, The Familiar

I just reread this one (I've been on a rereading kick) and I was confused as to why Rachel hadn't morphed to get rid of her crippled form. The only thing I could think of is to prevent her from becoming a host body, but I feel like she could have escaped anyway, with the headstart and the morphing power.

Say I wanted to recc' this series to someone, but they didn't have time to read all 54 books. Which say, 10 books would you say are essential for the animorph experience? I don't mean which books are necessarily "the best" (some of the really good books you have to be really big fans to enjoy) but which ten books should you read in what order so that you can get a good idea of what the entire series was about?
