It's a small thing, maybe silly to remember, but if I recall, in one of the first Marco books, there's this one line about his dad after Marco's mom disappeared. Something like,
"he comes home and watches TV with the sound off."
I'm such a big fan of SHOWING instead of TELLING, and just that little detail has stayed with me since I was a kid. Just... How clear and devastating a picture is that? God.
