I believe love triangle is in reference to Marco's dad Peter marrying Marco's step mother, Nora, (because he thinks Marco's mother, Eva, is dead) and then Nora is mysteriously never mentioned again in series after Eva is freed from being Visser One.
(Or at least that's how I read it.)
