Yeah - I dunno, I know everyone would know how it turned out, 'cause yeah, CANON, xD - but I figured it had to have crossed his mind at some point, and there had to be a time that the decision was made.
And I just... in my head-canon at least, Mertil's always been the more level, optimistic one. And even though we've had a whole book of him kicking ass, I thought that having Gafinilan be the 'stronger', more grounding one here was just an interesting dynamic to play with.
... God, I keep thinking I couldn't possibly get any geekier. xD BUT THEN I DO.
