New Jersey Drivers

animorphsljI've been wondering about this a lot, and I currently don't have any Animorphs books with me so I forget which book this is in. The one with Dapsen Lumber, I think. Anyway, when Marco is driving (terribly), someone yells at him something to the effect of, "Where'd you learn to drive? Jersey?" Being from Pennsylvania, I thought, ha, that's funny because it's true; people from Jersey do suck at driving (I kid, I kid). But is this notoriety well-known throughout the US? Since speculation is that the Animorphs are from California, would a 'New Jersey driver' comment be that common?
