Songs that remind you of the Animorphs
I was re-organizing my iTunes today and ended up discovering (or rediscovering) a few songs in the process, some of which really reminded me of the relationships in this series. At first I was thinking of making a fanmix, but idk, I guess my laziness took over so I'm here instead posting about songs!
Amy Cook - Feathers To A Crown
feather falls
bird is caught
inside of these four walls
hey my love
why don't we
tear the house down
sleep with the sky
the moontower reflected in your eyes
take those bad dreams
and burn them to the ground
these are
hard times for dreamers
we are just
pennies in a wishing well
but we ain't gonna bite
we ain't gonna sell
baby don't you worry
cause the cannonballs will fly
but we've got a cavalry of birds
to pluck them from the sky
she's the sight to see
the patron saint of mediocrity
and there are many
who follow her ways
but i will not let them get you down
there are still those who would choose
feathers to a crown
and may her fire guide you
all of your days
I couldn't find these anywhere online, so I had to transcribe them myself. I got a real shock listening to this song because it seriously reminded me of the Rachel/Tobias dynamic - bird metaphors and all! If you guys give the song a listen (or heck, even skim over these lyrics), I think y'all may see/hear what I do - every line seems to fit in perfectly, and that's pretty rare IMO. "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls also reminds me of T/R (I think they dance to it in one book or something), but the song is famous enough that I doubt I have to upload it for you guys :p
OTOH, Alanis Morisette's Simple Together reminded me of Jake/Cassie. Click for lyrics. I guess it'd be a Cassie-to-Jake song, but the whole thing made of think of how right for each other they seemed in the beginning (and how everybody assumed they would just fall in love and have a no-drama relationship), and how they fell apart in the end. It's a really sad and pretty song, too.
And "Discovery Channel" by The Bloodhound Gang ("baby you and me we ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel" - yes, *that* song) has always made me think of Marco and his "womanizing", haha :p I'm probably not giving much credit to the depth and wit of his character, but I think this works in a hilarious, ironic kinda way. I don't have the song (otherwise I'd upload it for you) but you can find it easily on Youtube.
There are more songs, but I think I'll let somebody else take up the discussion now.
So what do you guys think? Do the songs above make sense? Are there any songs that have always reminded you of a character/pairing/group/whatever in this series?

And then, somehow, when I read the books again last summer, Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" made me think of Rachel/Tobias, which is crazy. Crazy, crazy. I think there's another song but nothing's coming to me right now.

Interesting choice! I flooove "Crash & Burn" (I was obsessed with it as a kid), but never associated it with any particular couple because I think it works for a lot of different characters/pairings. I can definitely see why it reminds you of Tobias, though - he has this tragic!hero feel to him (well, they all do, but he's the extra emo one). And I totally had a crush on him as a kid, too.
"Uptown Girl"? Haha. Now I'm trying to imagine Tobias as a member of the BSB (a "back-street guy"). I guess he did turn into some sort of tough street kid in the end... ;)

"Animals and children tell the truth they never lie/which one is more human there's a thought now you decide." The song has a feel to it about how the world is so stressful, but then Darren sings "I want to live, like animals/Careless and free, like animals/I want to live, I want to run through the jungle/The wind in my hair and the sand at my feet." It reminds me of how they will morph into birds, dolphins, or dogs and feel totally free and happy.
Oh! And if any of you have continued to be a Darren Hayes fan (lead singer of Savage Garden) he has this awesome song called "Darkness" that sort of reminds me of Jake after the main war with the Yeerks (possibly a little before too).
One song that really makes me think of the Animorphs is O.A.R.'s "Heard The World". The first part of it is a bit slow, but it starts to really kick with the tension during the chorus and I think it really fits their anxiety.
"If the world is crumbling down, I don't wanna be alone.
NO, locked up in this place.
I heard the world up, late night.
Holding my breath tight, trying to keep my head on right.
There's a chill in the air, nobody could care.
How you're caught up in the fight of your life."

Will check out the Darren Hayes song (it sounds familiar, actually), and the O.A.R. as well. The lyrics seem to be really spot-on from what you've quoted!

I've never really listened to Hayes' music much (uh, because the band broke up, right? I don't pay attention, whee~) mostly because... I love the first two albums (yay, nostalgia) and I don't wanna find out if their other stuff was crap and never knew anyone else who liked their stuff. XD But I'll go look up that "Darkness" song 'cause now I'm interested.

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
See the man with the lonely eyes
Take his hand, you'll be suprised
So give a little bit
Give a lttle bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
Now’s the time that we need to share
So send a smile, we’re on our way back home
ooh yea... yea yea
We gotta feel it
Yea yea yea yea...
Ooo
Don't you need to feel at home
Ooo you gotta feel it
Yea you gotta want to
OO you gotta sing, we've come a long way tonight
I also second the Animal Song by Savage Garden.

Tobias...
I have always wanted to do an animation of Tobias with this song, Twilight by Vanessa Carlton. The beginning with Elfangor, then moving onto Tobias and Rachel's relationship. So much imagery with the sky and flying... "I was stained with a role, in a day that was not my own..." It just works. Has been a song I have associated with Tobias for over 10 years now :)

Parts of The Verve Pipe's "The Freshman" really remind me of Animorphs, especially the chorus. "For the life of me I cannot remember / What made us think that we were wise and / We'd never compromise / For the life of me I cannot believe / We'd ever die for these sins / We were merely freshmen". Just the sense of lost innocence and hard-won maturity. I'm not sure if I associate it with any particular character. Maybe Jake, near the end of things, when he's kind of falling apart.
I listen to a lot of Radiohead too, and I've heard a couple of songs that particularly make me think of Animorphs. Namely "The Bends" and "You and Whose Army?".
"You and Whose Army?" is kind of a whole-group-against the world song. "Come on, come on / You think you can drive me crazy / Come on, come on / You and whose army?". It's just a very ghostly, haunting, ringing song.
"The Bends" is kind of a Cassie song. Maybe. Or a Tobias song, or a song that could describe the feelings of any Animorph at some point. "I need to wash myself again to hide all the dirt and pain / 'cause I'd be scared that there's nothing underneath / And who are my real friends? / Have they all got the bends? / Am I really sinking this low?" The first two lines strongly remind me of Tobias, the last one of Cassie.
And then there's a Patty Larkin song, "All that Innocence", that really reminds me of the group. "All those high speed rides / We survived again / All those best laid plans / We'll leave to mice and men" - and lines like "You're standing at the gates of hell / There's nowhere else to go". It's actually kind of a gentle-sounding and beautiful song. You can actually listen to it here (http://www.pattylarkin.com/discography/luck.html), I think. Or a sample of it, at least.

He Lives In You from Lion King 2...well sort of Tobias and Elfangor
http://www.compteur.cc/lyrics-paroles/976866/M-LEBO/He-Lives-In-You.html
Reach For The Light
http://www.allspirit.co.uk/thelight.html
I can't find the one from Tarzan II but it's something like "Who am I, tell me/where do I come from? Who am I/tell me/it's like I don't fit in at all...
I also frequently think of R/T when I hear a song on my cd by a duo called Gross and Keeley(think Due South if anyone remembers). Not all of it works but the chorus does. "I will love you after the war/love you for always/for ever more/I will love you after the war/love you for always, forever and more
Last verse
After that blackbird lifts up from off my chest
and after my soul takes its rest
My love forgive me, I never planned to die
and love, put two pennies over my eyes
This one is so Ax and Tobias
had a dream - of the wide open prairie
I had a dream - of the pale morning sky
I had a dream - that we flew on golden wings
And we were the same -just the same - you and I
Follow your heart - little child of the west wind
Follow the v ice - that 's calling you home
Follow your dreams - but always, remember me
I am your brother - under the sun
We are like birds of a feather
We are two hearts joined together
We will be forever as one
My brother under the sun
Wherever you hear - the wind in the canyon
Wherever you see - the buffalo run
Wherever you go - I 'll be there beside you
Cuz you are my brother - my brother under the sun
This one I couldn't get a link but...a lot of it works for Tobias but not *quite* all of it.
Where has the starlight gone?
Dark is the day
How can I find my way home?
Home is an empty dream
Lost to the night
Father, I feel so alone
You promised you'd be there
Whenever I needed you
Whenever I call your name
You're not anywhere
I'm trying to hold on
Just waiting to hear your voice
One word, just a word will do
To end this nightmare
When will the dawning break
Oh endless night
Sleepless I dream of the day
When you were by my side
Guiding my path
Father, I can't find the way
You promised you'd be there
Whenever I needed you
Whenever I call your name
You're not anywhere
I'm trying to hold on
Just waiting to hear your voice
One word, just a word will do
To end this nightmare
I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
(Repeat to end)
I know
Yes, I know
The sun will rise
Yes, I know
I know
The clouds must clear
I know that the night must end
I know that the sun will rise
And I'll hear your voice deep inside
I know that the night must end
And that the clouds must clear
The sun
The sun will rise
The sun
The sun will rise
I could see a group sing "We are the Champions" lol or "We Will Rock You". I also am reminded of them when I listen to several Buffy songs on the Once More With Feeling soundtrack. Walk Through The Fire, Where Do We Go From Here and the final part of the I've Got a Theory one
What can't we face if we're together?
What's in this place that we can't weather?
Apocalypse, we've all been there
The same old trip, why should we care?
What can't we face if we get in it
we'll work it through within a minute
We have to try, we'll pay the price,
it's due or die
there's nothing we can't face...
This could be a Jake/Cassie almost

Whoa, that Bryan Adams song is gorgeous... I'll always associate that with those two from now on. And "You Can't Take Me (I'm Free)" with the whole group.

Seriously, HSM sucks, but I love this song because of the Jake-ness.
Everybody's always talking at me
Everybody's trying to get in my head
I wanna listen to my own heart talking
I need to count on myself instead
Did you ever?
Lose yourself to get what you want
Did you ever?
Get on a ride and wanna get off
Did you ever?
Push away the ones you should've held close
Did you ever let go?
Did you ever not know?
I'm not gonna stop, that's who I am
I'll give it all I got, that is my plan
Will I find what I lost?
You know you can
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
(Bet on me)
I wanna make it right, that is the way
To turn my life around, today is the day
Am I the type of guy who means what I say?
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
How will I know if there's a path worth taking?
Should I question every move I make?
With all I’ve lost my heart is breaking
I don't wanna make the same mistake
Did you ever?
Doubt your dream will ever come true
Did you ever?
Blame the world and never blame you
I will never
Try to live a lie again
I don't wanna win this game if I can't play it my way
I'm not gonna stop, that's who I am
(Who I am)
I'll give it all I got, that is my plan
(That's my plan)
Will I find what I lost?
You know you can
(You know you can)
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on me
I wanna make it right, that is the way
To turn my life around, today is the day
Am I the type of guy who means what I say
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
Oh,Hold up
Give me room to think
Bring it on down
Gotta work on my swing
Gotta do my own thing
Hold up
It's no good at all
To see yourself and not recognize your face
Out on my own, it's such a scary place
The answers are all inside of me
All I gotta do is believe
I'm not gonna stop
Not gonna stop 'til I get my shot
That's who I am, that is my plan
Will I end up on top?
You can bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
You can bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
I wanna make it right, that is the way
To turn my life around, today is the day
Am I the type of guy who means what I say
Bet on it, bet on it
Bet on it, bet on it
You can bet on me
