Songs that remind you of the Animorphs

I was re-organizing my iTunes today and ended up discovering (or rediscovering) a few songs in the process, some of which really reminded me of the relationships in this series. At first I was thinking of making a fanmix, but idk, I guess my laziness took over so I'm here instead posting about songs!

Amy Cook - Feathers To A Crown
feather falls
bird is caught
inside of these four walls
hey my love
why don't we
tear the house down

sleep with the sky
the moontower reflected in your eyes
take those bad dreams
and burn them to the ground

these are
hard times for dreamers
we are just
pennies in a wishing well
but we ain't gonna bite
we ain't gonna sell

baby don't you worry
cause the cannonballs will fly
but we've got a cavalry of birds
to pluck them from the sky

she's the sight to see
the patron saint of mediocrity
and there are many
who follow her ways

but i will not let them get you down
there are still those who would choose
feathers to a crown
and may her fire guide you
all of your days

I couldn't find these anywhere online, so I had to transcribe them myself. I got a real shock listening to this song because it seriously reminded me of the Rachel/Tobias dynamic - bird metaphors and all! If you guys give the song a listen (or heck, even skim over these lyrics), I think y'all may see/hear what I do - every line seems to fit in perfectly, and that's pretty rare IMO. "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls also reminds me of T/R (I think they dance to it in one book or something), but the song is famous enough that I doubt I have to upload it for you guys :p

OTOH, Alanis Morisette's Simple Together reminded me of Jake/Cassie. Click for lyrics. I guess it'd be a Cassie-to-Jake song, but the whole thing made of think of how right for each other they seemed in the beginning (and how everybody assumed they would just fall in love and have a no-drama relationship), and how they fell apart in the end. It's a really sad and pretty song, too.

And "Discovery Channel" by The Bloodhound Gang ("baby you and me we ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel" - yes, *that* song) has always made me think of Marco and his "womanizing", haha :p I'm probably not giving much credit to the depth and wit of his character, but I think this works in a hilarious, ironic kinda way. I don't have the song (otherwise I'd upload it for you) but you can find it easily on Youtube.

There are more songs, but I think I'll let somebody else take up the discussion now.

So what do you guys think? Do the songs above make sense? Are there any songs that have always reminded you of a character/pairing/group/whatever in this series?

Haha, I feel like a dork... but, the song "Crash & Burn" by Savage Garden always makes me think of Tobias. When I read the books as a kid he was my favourite character (read: I had a crush on him) and when that song played on the radio then... I'd just think of him! And it's actually the first time I heard a song and thought about a character so it's sort of weird... yeah. But a lot of Savage Garden's music--well, from the first two albums, since those were out when I read the books as a kid and it's actually the only ones I've heard of--make me think of the books a lot. I guess I heard their music a lot as a kid while I was reading them. It's sort of weird.

And then, somehow, when I read the books again last summer, Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" made me think of Rachel/Tobias, which is crazy. Crazy, crazy. I think there's another song but nothing's coming to me right now.

True. :B Okay, we're all dorks here.

"Crash & Burn" really can work with anyone, but it'll always be about Tobias to me~! I think it has a line about flying somewhere. That's totally why. Or maybe not...IDK anymore.

Okay, I knew there was another song that I really connected Animorphs too so I had to look it up. It's another Savage Garden song: "A Thousand Words" made me think of what they had to go, relationship wise, as they went through the books. Like, sometimes people in the group fought, and after a while some changed like Jake and Marco's (they were best friends EVER before, and after... it seemed like that seemed to weaken a bit, even if they still loved each other to death). The song always seemed interesting to me when I thought about Animorphs with it.

...My brain is weird. Tobias in the "Uptown Girl" video would be really insane, and yet... it fits. *face palms*

You can listen to "A Thousand Words" on YouTube here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=qMn1cKPI9ps&feature=related) if you can (actually, I think that user posted their whole first album, lol). It doesn't really fit like OMG but uh whatever. Just like "Promises" (another song by Savage Garden--they just go with Animorphs so well in my brain, sorry) makes me think of the leader Jake even if it doesn't fit very well.

"Feathers To a Crown" really reminds me of Rachel/Tobias too--sorry I didn't mention that earlier. :D; It just seems like a nice song too, though. I've actually never heard of the Discovery Channel song but it looks so funny. I watched that channel all the time as a kid too. XD

Jake and Marco's dying friendship really was one of the saddest parts for me. ;_; Espeically since I really love the kind of relationship they had before, and to see that die was really heartbreaking. When I reread the series... Well, I've always found Jake really interesting, but I found him even more so (because uh. I wasn't just paying attention to Tobias anymore. Yeah.) and I got a new fondness for Marco's humour, and it was really tragic seeing it fall apart. D:

[identity profile] sukuhov.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I probably like that song better since it is darker and, even for ME Savage Garden can get cheesy. I only like about half the songs I've heard from them.

I figured it had nothing to do with the channel itself, but still. :B

...Actually, that is true. Marco was only in the group because of Jake, even if he did know who everyone was (well. I don't think he really knew who Tobias was beyond "That kid Jake saved from being bullied one day" but whatever) and he really only stayed because his mom. And even know Tobias is still my favourite, but Jake comes really close to second and Marco super close as third.

loving your song recs, dear! i'd give a few of mine but i'm slowly but surely working on a general animorphs mix and a cassie/jake mix so i don't want to give myself away. :) well, i'm pretty much done with the general animorphs one, now it's just a matter of getting quotes and artwork together because i like to go to the nines with these things...

Wow! As a hardcore Savage Garden and Animorph fan, I'm totally fanning out right now XD! And while "Crash and Burn" remains to be my favorite song in existence, and I do like the other songs that have been mentioned, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned "The Animal Song".

"Animals and children tell the truth they never lie/which one is more human there's a thought now you decide." The song has a feel to it about how the world is so stressful, but then Darren sings "I want to live, like animals/Careless and free, like animals/I want to live, I want to run through the jungle/The wind in my hair and the sand at my feet." It reminds me of how they will morph into birds, dolphins, or dogs and feel totally free and happy.

Oh! And if any of you have continued to be a Darren Hayes fan (lead singer of Savage Garden) he has this awesome song called "Darkness" that sort of reminds me of Jake after the main war with the Yeerks (possibly a little before too).

One song that really makes me think of the Animorphs is O.A.R.'s "Heard The World". The first part of it is a bit slow, but it starts to really kick with the tension during the chorus and I think it really fits their anxiety.

"If the world is crumbling down, I don't wanna be alone.
NO, locked up in this place.

I heard the world up, late night.
Holding my breath tight, trying to keep my head on right.
There's a chill in the air, nobody could care.
How you're caught up in the fight of your life.
"

you should! i'm kicking myself for not gathering quotes and things when i reread them a few months ago. i constantly had in the back of my mind that i was going to do fanmixes for cassie/jake, rachel/tobias, and a general mix but i only gathered quotes that pertained to rachel/tobias. curse meee! i'm contemplating just reading them again since each one takes me just about an hour to read so we'll see! there's no way i'm posting the mixes without the quotes, so i'll have to do it sometime ;)

aww that would be sweet! i'll let you know -- it's kind of on the backburner right now since i'm currently doing a reread of the HP series, but when that's over with, i'll probably jump right back into animorphs :)

deep down i think they all belong in gryffindor, but hey so did snape but he ended up in slytherin SO... i think jake would still be in gryffindor, as well as rachel. tobias seems ravenclawish to me. marco actually seems very slytherin. ax is so noble that he would definitely be gryffindor. cassie is so hufflepuff it's not even funny. then again i could be biased because cassie is my least favorite character and hufflepuff is my least favorite house ;)

It's Jim from Disney's Treasure Planet! A rather unappreciated film that I really like--but, well, I like Disney movies. But it's still one of my favourites.

...I have no clue what I listened to in middle school. But it wasn't that because I wasn't cool enough for NIN. :B

I never paid attention to the James/Tobias relationship... but you're right. Wow. How come I never noticed? XD Tobias is actually the one I related to the most, so he'll always remain my favourite. :D And then Jake is really interesting, Marco's funny... I think Rachel comes forth, because even though she is annoying from time to time I forgive her. Ax is fifth even though Andalites are just awesome, and Cassie is last 'cause she's boring sometimes. *is mean*

[identity profile] sukuhov.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, "The Animal Song." That one was so obvious I let someone else mention it. :P

I've never really listened to Hayes' music much (uh, because the band broke up, right? I don't pay attention, whee~) mostly because... I love the first two albums (yay, nostalgia) and I don't wanna find out if their other stuff was crap and never knew anyone else who liked their stuff. XD But I'll go look up that "Darkness" song 'cause now I'm interested.

i see what you mean about tobias. the reason i think he'd be good in ravenclaw is because he always came off as the most intelligent to me -- besides ax of course. the boy hadn't been in school for god knows how long, but he still knew so much stuff, sometimes more than the rest of the animorphs. i remember one time, he's talking about something to rachel and she marvels at him and just says "the things you know, tobias!"

cassie could fit in ravenclaw too though now that i think about it. and that marco quote is perfect! i know he had said something specifically that stood out as slytherin to me, and that was it. he would be such a kick ass slytherin!

I always thought that Goo Goo Dolls "Give a Little Bit" was appropriate to the final scenes with Rachel and the Ellimist. Kind of think of it from Rachel's point of view talking to Tobias.

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
See the man with the lonely eyes
Take his hand, you'll be suprised

So give a little bit
Give a lttle bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
Now’s the time that we need to share
So send a smile, we’re on our way back home
ooh yea... yea yea
We gotta feel it
Yea yea yea yea...
Ooo
Don't you need to feel at home
Ooo you gotta feel it
Yea you gotta want to
OO you gotta sing, we've come a long way tonight

I also second the Animal Song by Savage Garden.
