I am absolutely convinced that at some point in the series, Jake mentions that he either planned to be a Navy pilot (if the Yeerks hadn't happened) or that it was something he daydreamed about as a younger kid. Or was interested in it. Or something. I can't for the life of me remember what book this was in or what he said about it.

Does anyone else remember this, or am I just adding my own imagination into the canon?

I think I remember him mentioning he'd wanted to be a pilot - mostly because that was my dream as a little kid, too. Might have been wishful thinking, heh.

It suits him, even if it is just persistent fanon! Though I can't see him as a fighter pilot, not from the stories my (ex-Air Force) dad tells about the guys he knew who were... there's a certain temperament apparently common to the guys who go in for that, and it's kind of... Not Jake At All. More like Marco.

I've met a few who aren't like that, though. Like any job, you get a whole range of temperaments.

Out of curiosity, what points did he get so amusingly wrong? Since I know nothing about the Navy.

I know Michael Reynolds/Grant/Whatever-he's-calling-himself was a Navy brat, so maybe he was drawing on childhood knowledge? (for that matter, Jake's not the only 'leader' of his to be obsessed with all things nautical... Hm...)

I remember that too, so I don't think you're alone on that. I just don't remember what book it was either...

I swear I have a like "ID card" thing gotten as part of some animorpths pack, and on Jake's it said his ambition was to be a pilot. Or I could be making that up. Maybe I'll check tomorrow....

I remember this too. He's saying something how he wanted to be either a pilot or a doctor or something like his dad. I think not positive though... *goes to look it up*

Me! I wanted to find a way to climb trees for a living. Mom told me I could be anything I wanted, she forgot to add '...except Professional Tree-Climber.'

I can't remember if it's mentioned in the books, and if so, in what book, but there is a page on the official Animorphs website, which lists Jake's career goals as Navy Pilot and MD: http://www.scholastic.com/animorphs/characters/jake.htm

I swear there was a point at which some of the parents' names were all wrong on these pages, but it looks like they're correct now. Drove me crazy back in the day.

If you're all crazy then I'm crazy too, because I remember Jake wanting to be a pilot. It might've been in the weird alternate-future book where Rachel's in a wheelchair and Marco is evil? Along the lines of "This isn't what I pictured myself doing"?

Err, or not. A skim of the whole book offered no insight. =/
